Canvassing Friends on What to Wear to the Giller:
Should I break with protocol and wear Pat McDonagh’s knock off of a World War One flying suit? Billy Bishop (link?), our ace Canadian fighter pilot, wore suits like this when he shot down German fighter planes. He got the Victoria Cross and the Distinguished Service Order for doing things like knocking two German aircraft out of the sky while being attacked by four more.
You get the picture. But do you get this picture? A case could be made that all writers should dress in combat gear for the Giller since it’s the biggest battle of the books we have in this country.
